Cable mess is the single biggest visual difference between a hobbyist desk and a professional one. This guide walks through the five-step system we use to make desks look wireless.
Step 1: Inventory everything
List every cable on your desk: monitor power, monitor display, keyboard, mouse, headset, webcam, microphone, charger, ethernet. Most setups have 8-12 cables.
Step 2: Install the under-desk raceway
The CableCore Desk Kit includes an under-desk raceway. Mount it under the rear edge of your desk, then route every cable through it. This single step hides 80% of the visual mess.
Step 3: Bundle with self-closing sleeves
Group cables by destination (monitor, PC, peripherals) and wrap each group in a self-closing sleeve. The CableCore kit includes five sleeve sizes.
Step 4: Use magnetic clips for monitor arms
The FocusArm Monitor Mount has integrated cable channels, but for the remaining exposed runs, magnetic clips snap to the arm without adhesives.
Step 5: Replace zip ties with silicone
Reusable silicone ties replace a lifetime of single-use zip ties. They're adjustable, removable, and don't damage cables.
After this five-step system, the only visible cables on your desk should be the ones you actively plug and unplug.
